News Monitoring
Why news monitoring?
Often times, people do not understand the purpose of
a business that records and archives local news broadcasts.
The first thing to understand is that broadcast is the most
perishable of all mediums. Newspapers can be archived, and
there is an extensive network of websites that are constantly
available. However, in television, once a newscast is
broadcast, it disappears into the electronic spectrum with little
possibility of retrieval.
Television stations have, up until the last several
years, been the primary source of news clips. A television
station's archive, however, is limited to usually about a
week. Also, most broadcasters do not care to deal with the
general public or corporations when it comes to making copies of
news segments. They will often charge outrageous prices and
make the experience a hassle in the hopes of avoiding those looking
for clips.
News monitoring companies, such as Walker
Communications, provide a much larger archive at more reasonable
prices with a much faster turnaround time. Also, a monitoring
company's primary business is to provide copies of news
segments. In other words, unlike a television station, this is
not a side job for us - this is what we do! Therefore, we can
serve both the general public as well as corporate clients in a much
more efficient and convenient manner.
Finally, as a member of News Data Services (NDS), we
can let clients know when and where they make the news. We
also have the ability to acquire copies of news segments from
virtually anywhere in the U.S. and several other countries.
With our client-level access abilities, our clients can perform
searches on their own to locate stories of interest.
