What is NDS?
News Data Service, Incorporated (NDS) is a company made up of
independent broadcast monitors across North America who share access
to a common Internet-hosted computer database. The NDS system has
been in operation since early 1997 and is currently represented by
monitoring companies in over 130 markets.
NDS is owned in equal parts by its stockholders. No one person or
company has control of NDS. The service is managed by a president
and a board of directors, elected by a majority of NDS stockholders.
The system now employs an executive director and is maintained by an
independent computer consultant, contracted by NDS.
Before accessing the system, NDS affiliates must sign a contract
and be approved by the board of directors. The contract outline
requirements pertaining to affiliation fees and charges, system
operation guidelines, and standards for monitoring and logging.
The system is hosted on the Internet and is only accessible to
affiliates through the use of passwords. All information is
encrypted in order to protect the information and interests of NDS
affiliates.
